Ask A Childbirth Educator Questions and Answer
Q. Due to conflicting work schedules, my husband and I are finding it difficult
to attend childbirth classes...Do you know where I can get video on any
techniques that will help labor be easier...I do not want any drugs during
labor.
A.
Have you called the CBE's in your area and asked them? I can find a video for
you but you would have to purchase it---this way someone in your area might
have one you can borrow, and might be able to meet with you for any questions
you might have. I have run into your situation several times, and I will try
to get the couple in for one or two sessions to go over basics and make sure
they have their questions answered.
Try reading these books, I think you will find them very helpful:
- The Birth Partner---Penny Simkin (very thorough and all about labor comfort
measures)
- Gentle Birth Choices-- Barbara Harper (another great reference)
- Childbirth without Fear--- Grantly Dick-Read (excellent and a classic)
- Active Birth- Janet Basalaskas (has exercises, stretches and great labor info)
A birth plan is also a great idea to help express your wishes. Try our Interactive Birth Plan.
Good luck!
