Ask A Lactation Consultant
Q. I just found out that I may be pregnant with twins. Prior to this I had
decided that I wanted to breastfeed. Can I still use breast feeding alone
or will I have to supplement my breast milk with formula?
A. CONGRATULATIONS - CONGRATULATIONS
You most certainly can breastfeed twins. Many mothers of multiples do
very well with breastfeeding their babies. Complications can occur if
the babies are born early, but even then most twins do very well. Get
in touch with a lactation consultant in your are or a LaLeche League who
can refer you to other mothers who have breast fed more than one baby.
Do some reading and above all take care of yourself during pregnancy.
Good luck to all of you!
Stephanie Ryan, RN, BSN, ICCE, IBCLC answers your breastfeeding questions.
