Ask A Midwife

Q. What harm can be done to the fetus by laying on your stomach???? I'm in my seventh month and I still find it comfortable to lay on my stomach... Is it harmful or harmless?????

A. I don't think it will harm the fetus, fact is you won't stay there for long. It is lying on the back that is more potentially harmful as it cuts off the circulation to the fetus. Even that is fine in small time periods, don't worry if you wake up on your back-that is why you woke up, you needed to change your position.
