Ask A Midwife

Q. I have taken 4 HPTs with different results. The first was positive, while the other three were negative. If I am pregnant I'm not sure when conception took place. I also have a lot of the symptoms of being pregnant. Why would the tests show up different.

A. A positive is a positive, but you also can miscarry, hence the negative. But that isn't necessarily true, you don't get a positive unless you are pregnant, but a negative doesn't mean you aren't--could have been the time of day it was taken, the strength of the urine, etc. Now you probably are very confused-you are or were pregnant. How late are you and what symptoms do you have?
