Ask A Midwife

Q. I have a couple questions regarding early pregnancy symptoms. I had a miscarriage in October. I was only 6 weeks along. I am 27 years old. Since my miscarriage I have had 2 normal periods, Which are on a consistant 26 day cycle.

I did not need a D & C, I miscarried natrually. Now I feel as if I am pregnant again. My main symptoms are sore nipples and my veins in my breasts are really darkening again. They really did before too, and frequent urination.

I am due for my menstrual cycle in 2 days. I have had these symptoms for almost a week.

  • Is it possible for my symptoms to show up so early if I am pregnant again?
  • Could my hormones be off balance because of my miscarriage?

Thanks in advance for any answer. I, am of course, scared that I could miscarry again, But am trying to stay hopeful and find out as soon as possible to help the next pregnancy, I will test when I am late.

A. I am sorry about your miscarriage. Yes, it is definitely possible for you to be experiencing pregnancy symptoms so soon before your period is due. Some women report feeling symptoms the day after conception. It is also possible you are not pregnant. A blood test would show an accurate result at this time, but since this is Christmas, you probably don't have access to a physician or laboratory at this time. By the time you do, you can do a home pregnancy test. I wish you best of luck.
