Ask A Midwife

Q. Are there any theories or suggestions concerning choosing the sex of the baby? Is there any substance to the theory that men who have a high level of cardiovascular fitness have a higher chance of conceiving a girl?

A. There are some theories about sex selection, but hard to know if they are really reliable. An excellent book for this information is: Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. There are some good chapters in there about some of the theories. You also might find some research on the Internet. I am not familiar with anything linking cardiovascular fitness to sex determination. The major theories seem to center around the time conception occurs. Let me know if you find anything.
