Ask A Nurse Questions and Answers
Q. I had my last real period on the 28th of July. 2 weeks after the period
ended, I experienced one day of light bleeding. I thought I had a one day
period. I took a pregnancy test one month later, and found out that I am
pregnant. My question is, do you think I was pregnant when I bled that one
day, or do you think I got pregnant after that day.
Also, I have a 10 month old son, and I am still nursing him. Does this
pose a threat to the baby I am carrying? At what point do I need to stop
nursing, or is there a point at all.
I enjoy nursing, and my son sleeps with us, and I think it is going to be
really difficult to break him. If possible, I would like to wait at least
two months, and break him directly to a cup rather than to a bottle. What
do you suggest?
Kristy
A.
I hear of woman who have some light spotting at the time of implantation. Maybe
that was your case.
La Leche League has a file on breastfeeding while pregnant. A quote from their FAQ: "In a normal pregnancy, there is no evidence that continuing to breastfeed will increase your risk of miscarriage
or deprive your unborn child of necessary nutrients."
Congratulations!
