Ask A Nurse
Questions and Answers

Q. My husband and I are planning to get pregnant over the next few months. My ob-gyn says that today's pill are so safe, that I really can stop it and begin trying any time. However, some materials I have read say to wait at least 2-6 months after stopping the pill before you get pregnant. What is your opinion?

A. Well, you know what they say about opinions!!! Just kidding. It seems that doctors were recommending a waiting period of 2-3 months for as long as I can remember. Many people have gotten pregnant just coming off the pill and have no problems at all. It makes sense to me to give your body a month or two to adjust to a more normal cycle and rythym just to be safe and assure a stable pregnancy. Your doctor seems pretty confident that all would be well so I suppose it depends on your decision.
