Childbirth Educators from ALACE

I chose ALACE because they were the first organization I ran across online who offered at-home study...and the price was right!

I didn't really choose to be certified...I thought *all* people who wanted to teach childbirth classes had to to be certified, so that's the route I took. I'm glad of this choice, though, since I feel it makes me a little more credible to doctors, midwives, and potential clients.

The support from the director of teacher training (Vicki Elson) was wonderful, even if it took a few weeks to get feedback through the regular mail. Things had been slow with the central office, but they *always* got back to me and were always very apologetic and helpful. There has also been support via e-mail lists (bcce, cce, and alace) from other teachers/trainees.

The at-home training was great since I had a one-year old at home. I also got pregnant when I first started the training, so it was wonderful going through my whole pregnancy learning new things. I think it really helped me to achieve the positive birth experience I was seeking.

The organization at the central office could have been better, but I know it's difficult in a new and quickly expanding organization. I also wish the ALACE name was a little more known, since it would be easier to get new students. I guess this is something I'll be working on!
