Heather's Birth

Heather is my first and only child. I decided to go through natural childbirth. We went to the classes and I was ready. My husband was in the military so he was gone all the time. I had not met my doctor that was going to deliver. My first appointment with him was going to be on Monday.
Saturday morning I got my surge of energy. I dug two holes and planted two trees. That night I felt a little sick and thought I was coming down with a cold. I went to bed earlier than usual. My husband had duty the next morning and he told me that he would call me when he got to his duty station. He left and I went back to sleep. It was about 5:30 A.M. when my water broke and I had my bloody show. My husband had not called me yet so I called his company commander and he said that he would have him meet me at the hospital.
I called my best friend who lived next door. I was not packed because this was two weeks earlier than my due date. My labor pains were not bad at all. The military hospital was about 20 minutes away. We laughed the whole way over. The elevator was broke and I had to walk up 2 floors (we were still laughing). I walked in and it was 6:30 A.M.. I told the nurse that I thought I was going to have a baby. She told me that she heard me laughing and that no way was I was ready to deliver. She told me that I should go home and come back later when the pain is closer together. There happened to be a doctor there and he said that we would go ahead and check me out. The doctor looked at me and told the nurse to prep me because he could see the head. They wheeled me in, I had one push and Heather came into this world in 30 minutes.
My doctor told me that he had been on duty all night long and was ready to go home when he got the call. He also told me that in all his years, he has never delivered a baby in 30 minutes. My daughter now is going to have her first child and I hope that she will have it as easy as I did.
