Baby Boy
This was my third child. I have two girls and was ellated when at 5 months I
found out I was having a boy. This pregnancy had some complications with
placenta previa. After intercourse at about 4 months, I stood up only to be
standing in a pool of blood. After a visit to the emergency room, it was
determined that I had placenta previa and could not have intecourse untill
this condition went away. Thank goodness at 6 months the problem corrected
itself and things went back to normal. So the rest of my pregnancy went well
with the exception of the fact that he was laying on a nerve in my pelvis for
the last 2 months. This gave me great pain if I tried to walk for more than 5
minutes. But, oh well things could have been much worse.
Two weeks before I was due my family and I went to a campground for the
weekend. Saturday night I woke up with contractions. My first thought was
there is no way my baby is going to be born in a trailer park. Luckily the
mild contractions only lasted a few hours so on Monday I had a checkup. I was
dilated 1 centimeter. For the next two weeks contractions came and went.
Until, Monday afternoon I got a call from my husband to see how I was because
he was traveling out of state for the next few hours. I told him I was fine
and off he went. Well, 30 minutes later I got this pain in my back like
someone threw a chair at me. Great here I am with my 8 and 6 six year old no
family around and now my husband was in a different state. Luckily my
neighbor worked nearby and I called him to come and get me because I was
afraid this baby was going to be born right there in front of my kids. We
beeped my husband and arrived at the hospital about 4:00. Of course my
contractions slowed down and 10:00pm they decided to break my water because I
was 3 cen. dilated. I was handling the pain well for the next couple of hours
until I asked for something for the pain. They told me nubain was unlike
demoral and I would still be alert so I went ahead with nubain. It definitely
makes you grougy which I did not want and it quickly wore off which is when I
decided to go with an epidural. The epidural was painless since my labor was
so intense at this point that a little needle did not hurt. After the
epidural and a few more doses put in the tube my labor was painless. The only
thing I felt was alittle pressure. It was about 12:00am at this point. At
about 2:00am the pressure was getting very strong so they asked me if I wanted
more medication put in. I decided not to because I was determined to be able
to walk after this delivery. At this point they checked me and I was 10 cen.
dilated. With the help of my doctor telling me when to push I was able to
deliver in about 15 minutes without a episiotomey. This epidural enabled me
to control my pushing because I could not feel the intense pain therefore I
did not need and episiotemy. Out came my 8 pd. 5oz.beautiful baby boy whom I
breastfeed immediatley and I was alert enough to enjoy the beauty of this
moment. Right after delivery because the medication had wore off I was able
to walk myself to the bathroom.
For anyone who is considering an epidural, I would say this is the best thing
that happened to me. I enjoyed the birthing process without the empasis on
how much pain I was in. The only side effect for me was a dull backacke for
about the next 3 months. Good Luck with your delivery!
