Christopher Yu Olson's Birth
Christopher Yu Olson was born Sunday, June 9. He was two weeks over due.
Things were not going the way I had "planned". This was my first pregnancy
and things did not go as I expected. First of all I gained 90 pounds.
Nope that's not a typo. My face was so swollen that I could hardly smile.
I had to take off my wedding rings when I was only three months along. I
had to wear slip on shoes that were extremely loose when I bought them and
so tight that they left marks a week later. None of this had anything to
do with what I ate. Anyway. I worked all the way up to my due date. I
quit then because if I would have had to listen to one more person say "You
haven't had that baby yet!" I would have shot someone. to make matters
worse my doctor told me that since I was 100% effaced and 2 cm dilated that
I would have him at least two weeks early. Needles to say when my due date
rolled around I was miserable. A week later I begged my doctor to induce
me. He agreed to meet me at the hospital so I waddled myself all the way
down there waited two hours only for him to shine a light in my eyes and
say that he wouldn't induce me. I cried all the way home. The next week
he finally agreed to induce me. I went to the hospital on Saturday night
to be gelled and I went into labor. My contractions started out at four
minutes apart but soon they were so close together that I could barely get
a sentence out before the next one hit. I was hooked up to a fhb monitor
and one to measure my contractions both were external later they also gave
me two internal monitors. I was given nubain through an i.v. which made me
throw up almost constantly. I finally asked for an epidural which helped
some. After nine hours I started to push. Christopher did not want to be
born. I pushed for four and a half hours. I had a left mediolateral
episiotomy and the doctor had to use forceps three times. I was given
oxygen because his heart rate went down and I was also given pitocin to
make my contractions stronger. He still would not come out so the doctor
told me that I had a half an hour to get him out or me was going to do a
c-section. I started to cry and five minutes later at 9:26 a.m.
Christopher was born. He is wonderful. Christopher is the easiest baby
you could ask for. He is always smiling and always happy so even though it
was a hard pregnancy and delivery he was definitely worth it.
