Brandon Jones
Well on October 2, 1996, the doctor had my induction scheduled. I had
Gestational Diabetes so this is why I was induced. I also was positive
for Strep B and they immediately started my on antibiotics. Anyway on
the the story. At 6:30 am I drove Krystal (my 2 yr old daughter) to day
care and kissed her bye (this was hard knowing I wouldn't be home for a
couple of days) and went back home and grabbed my bags and me and my
hubby went to the hospital. This was really weird to me knowing I was
soon to be in a lot of pain. The first time I went into labor on my own
but knowing when it is going to start was kinda scary.
We got there and started Pitocin drip around 7:30 or so and every 30
minutes they would increase it slightly. My doctor likes to take it slow
so you don't have contractions come hard and fast. Well around 9:00 am I
started having mild contractions, nothing to write home about. By 12:00
- 1:00 pm the contractions were getting more uncomfortable. By this time
I was still only about 2 cm dilated. The doctor came in at 3:15 pm and
broke my water and I asked him when could I get my epidural? I had no
intentions on having natural birth. I stated from the minute I arrived
that I wanted an epidural just as soon as I could, that minute if they
would. Of course they wouldn't. He told me to wait and see how the
contractions would go after breaking my water and when I was pulling
everyone's hair out he would order me one. I was like "O.K." He guessed
the baby would arrive around 6:00 pm since I wasn't dilated very much.
Prabably within 5 minutes after breaking my water the action was on!
The pain became unbearable and there seemed like there was hardly a break
in between. My doctor had stepped out for about 5 minutes and came back
in and at that time I was begging for help, I could bearly speak and boy
was I in some kinda pain!! He said he would get the epidural, I think
the anesthesiologist must have been tied up because my OB ended up doing
my epidural. Everything was just going so fast! So here I was in intense
pain with contractions constantly (no break) and I had to sit up and bend
over and be perfectly still while he placed the epidural and he took
forever! I went through 4 major contractions waiting for him to finish
and I had to be perfectly still, this was very hard, I was sweating and
crying, I knew I couldn't make it. he got it in and I knew the pain
would be gone (as soon as it was in for my first baby the pain stopped
instantly). Well low and behold, the pain was still there and still very
intense. I don't believe he had it in very good, I am sure he doesn't
put these in routinely. He said it may take up to 10 minutes to start
working. This was about 4:10 pm.
All of a sudden I had a weird burning sensation in my vaginal area and
I told the nurse something was happening (they still thought it would be
awhile before baby popped out). She rushed to check me and I was fully
dialated and baby was coming! Boy did the rushing start then, the doctor
barely had time to put on his gloves when they started yelling push!! I
screamed that "I did not want this baby naturally! I needed drugs!!"
They told me it was too late and the baby was almost here. I thought at
that moment I would die! The pain was horrible (I don't tolerate pain
very well). I kept saying I can't do this, the nurse said yes you can!
Then I had to be very still and not push so the doctor could give me
Lidocaine block (since the epidural wasn't working) to give me an
episiotomy. Boy was this hard! Then they said one more good push and
baby would be out. I was in pain but I said to myself that I would push
hard and get this over with. So with some unknown strength I pushed and
didn't stop and over rode the terrible pain and out popped Brandon! He
cams so fast the doctor had to catch him! I pushed only 3 times and he
was out! His little head was bruised he came so fast!
The doctor said it was a boy and I was in shock! I just knew I would
have another girl. My husband cried and then I started to cry. I
couldn't hold him right away because he was having a difficult time
breathing. I held him for 1 minute before they took him away to work on.
I just kept saying "I can't believe I had a boy!" Well the epidural
did kick in around 4:45 just in time for him to sew me up! Brandon was
born at 4:34 pm.
I never wanted to give birth naturally and I thought I would never make
it. But as soon as he popped out and the pain was gone I am glad I got
to feel everything. I really know what it is like to have a baby now. I
felt every little bit of Brandon coming out and it was an experience I
will never forget.
