Brandon
It's good to be back. My son Brandon was born December 27.
He weighed 5lbs 7oz. was 17 3/4 inches and 5 weeks early.
He was supposed to be a Feburary baby but decided to be a
late Christmas gift.
I had been on a home contraction monitor
since my 27th week. I woke up at 7:30 went to the bathroom and
grabbed the monitor and put it on. I went back to bed and I almost
went back to sleep. When I felt this pop. I knew then that my water
had broke. I got up and went to the bathroom to make sure and just as
I got into the bathroom the 'gush' came (7:45). I woke up my husband
we grabbed our 5 year old and raced to the hospital. My friend who
was supposed to take her was on vacation. The hospital was 30 miles away.
Half way there the contractions started and were 2 minutes apart by the
time we got there. We got to the hospital at 8:30. We pulled up to the
emergency entrance and a guy came out and asked what the emergency was.
My husband told him I was in premature labor and the contractions were
2 minutes apart. He said he would get someone with a wheel chair. A
nurse came out no wheel chair and said come with me. She took me
to admitting of all places. When I told the lady in admitting that I
had preregistered she looked in several file cabinets and said she couldn't
find my folder. I told her if I didn't get to the delivery room
soon I was going to have the baby right there. She finally got someone
with a wheel chair and they took me to surgery. It was 8:45 before I
got to delivery and the nurses there went crazy they had been waiting
for me since 7:45. As they were getting my undressed the urge to
push started. They finally took me to the delivery room at 8:55.
We then had to wait on a neonatal team to get downstairs. When they
finally let me push the contrations stopped. It took 4 pushes and
the head was out. I had to do it all myself I didn't have the help
from the contrations. The doctor had to unwrap the cord from his
neck and then he delivered the rest of him. Birth time 9:01. I
didn't get to hold him. They wrapped him in a blanket and put him
in an isolette. I got to see him for a few minutes before they
took him to nicu. He spent 16 days in the hospital.
He is now 3 months old and weighs 13lbs 4oz.
Thanks to all who answered my questions.
