Mason Paul
Mason Paul was born July 28, 1995 at 9:05 pm weighing in at 7.7 pounds and 21
inches long (19 inches long without the Cone Head!!!)! Apgars 8 and 9
I woke up at about 2:30 am with diarreha. So I watched TV at a plum and a
Hostess Ding Dong (we craved these) and at about 4:30 am contractions started!
At 5:00 am my husband woke up and started timing these at ~15 minutes apart
(we had false labor the week before...I knew what labor pains were now!). At
around 7:00 am I called my doctor and he said to go to the hospital (he is
our neighbor and just the father of twins so he was a little overprotective!)
I told him I had to take a shower first (at this time Mason turned his whole
body for know I was experiencing Back Labor...not good with a herniated disk!)
When we finally got to the hospital, I was only 2 centimeters dialated and
almost fully effaced. So I just walked and walked with my husband. At this
time the back labor was nothing compared to the pain I was feeling on the top
of my thighs!!( Anyone else experience this...This was NOT pleasant!)
After alot of walking...it was like a parade...me, my husband and my parents
walking round and round the hospital corridors! Labor was not really bad until
around 6:00 pm when my doctor induced me with PITOCIN and broke my water! Up
until this point I was drug free and now I WANTED DRUGS! No epidural, due to
my back, so the gave me STADOL (which I thought did NOTHING)! At this point my
thigh pain was EXCRUCIATING...I NEVER felt the pain in my back! At 8:30 pm I
started to push...at 8:45 pm I said that Mason was going to live inside me
FOREVER and I was done...at 8:46 pm the nurse said that I will push like I
never did before...at 9:05 pm Brahms Lullabye played throughout the hospital
and my BEAUTIFUL baby Mason was born!
We had 15 people at the hospital waiting for Mason's arrival and my husband
went out to toast the happy occasion! IT was truly an indescriable experience.
Word to the wise:
Stay focused...I did not and this was a BIG mistake since I could not be
comforted..the thigh pain was horrible!
Pay attention to the pushing techniques...I think this was probably the
most important part since I could really feel progress when I did it right!
Walking during labor was great. I also spent about 1/2 hour in the shower
and came out looking like prune girl.
Mason was 1 week early and is now a 4 month old 17.7 pounds 27 inches long baby
who I still cannot believe is ours...he is so CUTE!!!!!!!!
