Travel and Pregnancy

Travel in pregnancy is completely safe and sometimes unavoidable, if you keep in mind the following precautions:

  • You are having a normal pregnancy
  • Drink to thirst and eat to comfort
  • Dress for the trip
  • Stay comfortable and move frequently
  • Air Travel
    • Avoid air travel in the last few weeks of pregnancy, most airlines enforce this rule
    • Avoid nonpressurized high altitude flights
    • Avoid the smoking sections, if allowed on your flights
  • Car Travel
    • Always wear your seat belt, with the bottom belt across your hips, not over your abdomen
    • Stop and stretch or go to the bathroom at least every two hours
  • Take snacks
  • Take pillows
  • Carry your prenatal record from your practioner (particularly around your due date)
  • Check with your practioner before taking any vaccinations or medications
  • Enjoy yourself!
